About

Thanks for visiting my blog.

In the prior stage of my work life, creativity was not a big focus; I worked for local government in the area of property taxes. Many forces were at work there, to SQUASH creativity wherever it happened to spring up out of the cold, formica-sealed desktops in the cubicle forest.

Now that I am REtired I have time to REdo some things I wanted to do in the past but didn’t. And I love using REmnants for projects because they are what’s leftover from a REal project, except that the end-of-the bolt fabric REmnants can be had at a discount price now! Score!

Since the start of this blog, I also began hosting a knitting group. See my other blog at http://wednesdayknitting.wordpress.com for our stories.

I have a problem. My favorite light weight, wool suit jacket has a moth hole in it. The fabric is a light colored, subtle plaid. The hole is actually two holes, maybe 1/8″ and 1/4″ wide. What can I do to salvage this jacket?

Hi – Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on the art quilt. I love the premise of your blog…remnants. I may have taken this to a whole new level by finding remnants at a thrift store! 50 cents for yards and yards that may serve as quilt backings or…. it makes me smile to ponder what might emerge! I’ll look forward to your future posts!

I like your ideas on creativity. Do you think you get more creative when you have more time? I’d like to be more creative myself. So many things to do, it seems I can’t find the time to get into the ‘flow’ very often . 😦

what a great idea for a blog – even though I understand your blog has evolved some – to now include knitting and other things – but I did not realize how much I appreciate fabric remnants until I read your “beginning” post this week.

When I taught art – many times we had fabric art projects – or mixed media days – and the bins/bags with different cloth scraps and fabric remnants were very dear to me – and it was always fun to see students use a small scrap in a clever way in their work – and many times I was the only one who saw how that fabric was used in 3 different ways. One of my favs was when students used scraps of creamy satin and this big remnant of a floral print – for sailboat sails – gorgeous! And maybe sometime I can show you, but my son has an mixed media art piece (that placed high in an art show) and the sparkly black cloth circle he placed in the sky – was cut from an old pair of dress pants! 😉 My other son also tried making a 5 panel hat with remnants (last fall) and it was an adventure!

anyhow, I like your recycling theme as well – glad I found your blog.

thanks so much for the like of my ‘street life’ photo. I love your ‘about’. I think every office worker would agree with your comment about forces to ‘squash creativity.’ We will have none of that now, will we? Enjoy retirement and let the creativity flow!

I completely agree with you! Save that fabric!! I especially love vintage materials. Too bad it IS such a wasteful world. So many great things can come from stuff headed to the landfills. It just takes a little vision 🙂
